Our Poria cocos extract is made from the underground sclerotium of Wolfiporia extensa, known as Fu Ling. It is standardised to at least 30% total polysaccharides and supplied in 60 plant-based pullulan capsules. A sclerotium is fungal tissue, not a tree root or a mushroom cap.
Introduction
Poria cocos (Fu Ling): sclerotium extract with at least 30% polysaccharides. 60 plant-based pullulan capsules.
Short description
Our Poria cocos extract is made from the underground sclerotium of Wolfiporia extensa, known as Fu Ling. It is standardised to at least 30% total polysaccharides and supplied in 60 plant-based pullulan capsules. A sclerotium is fungal tissue, not a tree root or a mushroom cap.
Product description
Poria cocos: an unusual underground sclerotium
Known as Fu Ling (茯苓) in China and hoelen in Japan, Wolfiporia extensa is associated with pine wood and roots. Rather than a conspicuous cap, it develops a firm underground storage structure called a sclerotium. Its brown exterior and pale interior are fungal tissues, not parts of the pine root.
From raw material to extract
Harvested sclerotia are cleaned, cut and dried. A common extraction method treats the milled material with hot water, concentrates water-soluble components and dries them to a powder. A standardised extract therefore differs from simply ground Fu Ling. The exact method used for each batch must be verified against its technical documentation.
At least 30% polysaccharides
Our Poria extract is standardised to a minimum of 30% total polysaccharides. This figure does not separately quantify beta-glucans or triterpenes, and the percentages must not be confused or added together. Poria also contains lanostane-type triterpenes, including pachymic acid and poricoic acids; their concentration in this extract has not been separately established.
Fu Ling in East Asian tradition
Fu Ling has a long history in Chinese materia medica. Traditional concepts such as dampness and digestion describe its place in the traditional Chinese medical framework; they are not established therapeutic effects of this supplement. Multicomponent classical herbal formulas are not equivalent to our single-ingredient Poria extract.
Research and composition
Scientists investigate Poria polysaccharides and triterpenes in laboratory and animal models, including their molecular structure and cellular interactions. Findings about isolated compounds or multicomponent formulas do not demonstrate a medicinal effect of these capsules. Composition depends on the sclerotium and extraction process.
60 plant-based capsules
We supply dried Poria extract in plant-based pullulan capsules instead of gelatin or HPMC. Each jar contains 60 capsules. Our quality checks consider identity, provenance, microbiological quality and contaminants. Raw materials are checked by an independent German laboratory before processing and are not irradiated during production.
Directions and storage
Take 2–3 capsules daily with water, preferably on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before or 90 minutes after a meal. A personalised regimen of 4–6 capsules is not a general dosage recommendation. Store tightly closed in a dry, dark place at 10–25 °C, out of children’s reach.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to any ingredient. Consult a doctor or pharmacist when taking medication, particularly medicines affecting fluid balance or kidney function. Specific safety information for pregnancy, breastfeeding and children is insufficient. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount. Food supplements are not medicines and do not replace a varied diet or medical care.
