01Origin and naming
Snow Mushroom is also known as silver ear fungus, white jelly fungus, snow fungus, and in China as yin er or bai mu er. The white, often delicately ruffled fruiting bodies have long been a popular ingredient in Chinese and other East Asian cuisines.
The mushroom is used in clear dishes and sweet soups, among other preparations. Historical food practices and traditional descriptions are part of its story, but they are not the same as clinical evidence for a dietary supplement.
02Growth habit and cultivation
Tremella fuciformis forms a gelatinous, white to cream-coloured and heavily folded fruiting body. Under natural conditions, it grows on wood in association with other fungi. This fungal relationship is important for its development and cultivation.
Suitable substrates and controlled growing conditions are used for commercial production. To describe our own raw material accurately, we distinguish the visible fruiting body from mycelium or fermentation products.
03Natural constituents
Snow Mushroom is characterised by complex heteropolysaccharides. Scientific analyses describe building blocks including mannose, xylose and glucuronic acid. Various protein, fibre and mineral components have also been described in the mushroom.
The exact chemical distribution depends on the starting material, cultivation process and extraction method used. A general compound profile must therefore not be interpreted as a product-specific laboratory certificate.
04Why the polysaccharides are remarkable
Tremella polysaccharides can exhibit strong water-binding and viscous properties. Their molecular weight and branching patterns help determine their physicochemical characteristics. Different isolated fractions are studied in the literature.
The well-known interest in such substances in cosmetic formulations concerns specific applications and research preparations. It does not prove that Snow Mushroom capsules have the same effects on the skin.
05From mushroom to extract
Water extraction is a commonly used research method for obtaining certain soluble Tremella polysaccharides. Subsequent filtration, concentration and drying can alter the properties of the resulting fractions.
Our product is offered as a standardised extract. Without product-specific processing documentation, we do not present unconfirmed extraction ratios, solvents, temperatures or molecular weights as established properties of these capsules.
06What does 30% polysaccharides mean?
The Snow Mushroom extract is standardized to at least 30% polysaccharides. This describes the stated concentration of a group of carbohydrate compounds in the extract.
This percentage is not the same as a separately measured beta-glucan content or a full characterisation of all Tremella heteropolysaccharides. On its own, it also does not prove a health effect.
Healthy Fungi: product composition
Healthy Fungi Snow Mushroom contains a standardized mushroom extract with at least 30% polysaccharides in plant-based pullulan capsules made from organic tapioca, without HPMC. The product information states that the raw materials are checked by an independent German laboratory before processing and are not irradiated during production. Separate analytical results are needed to determine the precise levels of individual polysaccharide fractions.
