Reishi is a glossy wood-decaying mushroom with a centuries-old place in East Asian culture. We select the fruiting body and offer two extract strengths, each with its own clearly defined composition.

02 / DETAILED PRODUCT INFORMATION

Reishi, from Lingzhi to standardized extract

The name Lingzhi is closely connected to Chinese culture and classical knowledge of nature. Its distinctive fruiting body has a glossy reddish-brown upper surface and grows on wood. The mushroom became a symbol of prosperity and longevity; this is a traditional meaning, not a promise of a health benefit.

01

A mushroom with a history

In traditional Chinese culture, Reishi has been described and depicted for many centuries. This wood-decaying fungus appears in artistic motifs, stories about ancient herbal knowledge and symbols of longevity. The species also acquired its own place in the natural traditions of Japan and Korea.

The commonly used name Ganoderma lucidum does not always refer to precisely the same species in older literature. Closely related species exist within the Ganoderma genus, so correct identification of the raw material is important.

02

Growth and cultivation on oak wood

Reishi is a wood-decaying fungus. Its fruiting body develops on tree trunks and other hardwood, with a tough structure and a porous underside. For our extracts, the mushrooms are grown on an organic substrate based on solid oak wood.

We use fruiting bodies rather than mycelium mixed with grain. For these preparations, fruiting bodies approximately six to nine months old are selected.

03

Why an extract?

The tough fruiting body consists partly of structural substances that are difficult to dissolve. Processing uses fermentation and dual extraction to obtain different fractions from the raw material. Water-soluble polysaccharides and less polar triterpenes do not necessarily require the same extraction conditions.

The final standardisation describes the content of certain groups of constituents. A higher overall polysaccharide percentage does not in itself demonstrate a greater biological effect.

04

Polysaccharides and triterpenes

Reishi naturally contains several carbohydrate fractions, including beta-glucans, and a characteristic group of triterpenes such as ganoderic acids. The proportions of these compounds can differ according to species, cultivation, raw material and extraction method.

Standardisation for total polysaccharides is not a separate measurement of beta-glucans. For our two extract variants, we therefore state only the levels specified for that particular variant.

Reishi 30%

A broad compound profile

This variant contains at least 30% polysaccharides (averaging 33–34%) and, according to the original product specification, at least 4% triterpenes.

  • 100% Reishi fruiting body extract
  • 300–350 mg extract per capsule
  • 60 plant-based capsules per jar
Reishi 50% + beta-glucans

Standardized separately

This variant contains at least 50% polysaccharides (average 53–54%) and at least 20% β-1,3/1,6-D-glucans.

  • 100% Reishi fruiting body extract
  • 300–350 mg extract per capsule
  • 60 plant-based capsules per jar

From raw material to capsule

The capsules contain Reishi extract without added fillers, sugar, preservatives or synthetic colours, fragrances or flavours. We use plant-based pullulan derived from tapioca for the capsule shell, rather than gelatin or HPMC. Our quality selection includes testing raw materials for unwanted contaminants and a production process without irradiation.

03 / DOSAGE AND USE

The original directions for use

The Healthy Fungi usage schedule below applies to both Reishi extract variants. Dosages and usage instructions have been retained as shown on our original product pages.

Dosage

Daily use: 2–3 capsules per day.

Personal usage schedule: 4–6 capsules per day, optionally combined with other recommended mushrooms.

Take with a glass of water on an empty stomach.

  • 30 minutes before or approximately 90 minutes after a meal.
  • Acerola is a natural source of vitamin C. Increasing vitamin C intake while taking mushrooms is recommended to enhance their effects. Natural vitamin C helps the body absorb important substances more effectively. View the description and product information.
  • Would you like to enhance the effects of mushrooms? In that case, I recommend Chaga infusion to drink. Prepare the infusion with water at 70–80 °C and let it steep according to the historical recipe. View the full recipe in the description.
  • When combining mushrooms, use no more than three or four species.
  • For sustained results, use the same mushroom for at least two to three months.
  • If you take medication, always consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage and product details

Packaging: 60 capsules per jar, with 300–350 mg of Reishi extract per capsule.

Capsule: plant-based pullulan made from tapioca, suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Storage: out of reach of children, in a dry, dark place at 10–25 °C, in its tightly closed original packaging.

Warning: Do not use if you are hypersensitive to any ingredient, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if a stomach or duodenal ulcer worsens, or in children. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount. A dietary supplement is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.

The extract variants have different standardisations. Product selection and the exact composition are stated on the corresponding label.
04 / TRADITION AND SCIENCE

What does research tell us about Reishi?

Reishi is among the best-known wood-decaying fungi studied by researchers. Research covers individual compounds, fractions and complete extracts. These studies do not always use the same Ganoderma species, preparation or concentration. We therefore distinguish our product's composition from findings in laboratory and clinical studies.

Beta-glucans

Cell and animal models have explored how certain beta-glucans from Ganoderma interact with receptors on immune cells. This is interesting basic research, but it does not demonstrate that our capsules enhance immune function in humans.

Ganoderic acids

These triterpenes are characteristic of various Ganoderma species. Researchers study, among other things, their chemical structures and interactions with cellular processes. Findings concerning isolated ganoderic acids cannot be applied directly to every commercial extract.

Human research

Small clinical studies exist involving different Reishi preparations and outcome measures. Differences in study duration, preparation and methodology mean that the findings are insufficient to attribute treatment or prevention of disease to these two extract variants.

Quality and comparability

A reliable comparison requires information about the exact raw material, the parts used, standardisation and analytical method. A polysaccharide percentage, a beta-glucan percentage and a triterpene percentage describe different measurement groups.
